Little Flower Princess

For Make-It March, here's a tutorial for a shirt I made a while back, inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Ruffles and Stuff. A simple way to jazz up a shirt for a girl:

 1. Start with a fun colored Shirt.
2. Cut out two shapes of "tear drops" and then cut out from chiffon. (I used the top part of a nightie that my daughter has outgrown). Cut as many pieces as will take to go around the collar twice.

 3. Pin the big tear drops to the shirt and run through the machine, then repeat with the little ones and voila!

4. Little Flower Princess! (Clip tutorial coming soon!)

You good girl, you!

How often would you tell your child how awful they are? How well would negative reinforcement work to motivate their behavior to change? Then why do we do it to ourselves? "I am so lazy! I am way too disorganized!I wish I could stay on top of birthdays! I always lose my temper!"

How about"catching" yourself doing something good today!

"I only ate 2 cookies, instead of the bag!"
"I went for a walk, good for me!"
"I played a ballgame with my child"
"I made something creative"
"I put together a healthy meal"

I made this cute decoupage toy storage for my daughter's room which I am celebrating today :). Quite cute, if I d say so, myself!

However big or small, reward yourself for the many achievements it takes to keep lives running smoothly.
"I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be "happy." I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all, to matter and to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all."

Mommy Makeovers

Being stuck at home this last week with sick kiddos had me feeling rather stir crazy, so I decided to make the best of it by doing a makeover with my daughter. Luckily for me she is a self-proclaimed super "girly girl" and thus always game for my spa antics. I have enjoyed doing at home spa's since my childhood when I would cover myself in mud and put raw eggs in my hair, so it's fun to finally have someone else to share the gooeyness with.

Heres How:

Steam: I filled a basin with hot water and two herbal tea bags (I use rooibos and lavender, but whatever blows your hair back is fine)
Scrub: With our pores nicely opened, next came a homemade scrub that was good enough to eat (really). Mixing honey and sugar until we had a granulated paste.
Mask: After we rinsed of our scrub (well, my daughter mostly licked it off) we got to the messiest part. We mashed together a banana and an avocado, and my daughter loved putting the goop all over my face. We then sat with cucumbers on our eyes for 5 minutes.

I finished up with a tissue oil for me and regular lotion for the little princess.

We felt refreshed and sparkly.
